There are days in this life that all I can do is pray. I just don’t feel like I have the energy or the desire to move against the spread of hatred against God. Some days I beg God to hurry and come again.
Democratic Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, A United Methodist Minister, recently led the benediction of the opening day of the newly elected Congress. He ended the “Prayer” with “Amen and Awoman”. After backlash, Cleaver went on to say that his “pun” was to honor the record number of women elected. I agree that their equality should be celebrated, but his use of “Awoman” show the total lack of leadership when given the honor to pray. It was quite disturbing and childish.
But should it surprise us? The Trinity is has effectively been replaced. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit have been changed. The new names you ask? Let me introduce you. They are Me, Myself and I. Society is spiraling out of control. So what do we, as the defenders of the true faith do? How do we turn back the onslaught of the enemy?
Start by loving God. Praising him in the hallway while we wait for the next door to open. I don’t believe that God does not give us more than we can handle. I believe that he does, because he wants us to turn to Him. We must worship while we wait, but we cannot sit back and let the world work it out. He must be active soldiers in God’s army.
I was assisting with a funeral some years ago, prior to being ordained. The Priest who was celebrating the Mass saw a woman with a screaming child stand up and start to carry the child out. He stopped the Mass and exclaimed to her “Ma’am, don’t go. For you see the sound of a screaming child in Church tells us that God has not given up on us yet.”
It’s not too late but I fear that the world must come to a climactic cliff before it turns around. We must love them. We must, with love, lead them to the truth. There is no time to be shy or ashamed of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who was, is, and ever shall be.
Fear not my brothers and sisters, God is leading us to lead them. God is giving us the strength, we must take the car out of park and drive. We must take every opportunity presented to us to stand up for the faith. It is no longer divided between any political aisle. Remember the words of Jesus when he said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
God bless you,
Father Jason Bowden
