In Search Of Allusive Joy

24 This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it. -Psalm 118:24

I am not fond of roller coasters. That out of control drop feeling in my gut is what I hate the most. I am not so stressed or worried about the safety, as I know I cannot stop the chaos, all you can do is hang on for the ride, knowing full well that the ride will end or “This too shall pass”.

The search for joy in life can seem like a never ending journey. Know that you are not alone as, you should know, few people (dare I say no one) lives in constant or perpetual joy. Sure, according to someone’s social media, it can seem like they have it all. Especially never ending joy, but it’s not the case.

Life, especially the Christian life, can seem like a roller coaster. There are dips and valleys, corkscrews and hanging upside down as well as those darn drops. At times, however, you come to the moment, at the top of a hill, when pure joy rushes over you. It’s that brief moment at the top when you stop, if only for a brief second, and you can see for miles. joy overcomes you and then it ends in panic, stress and that horrible stomach drop feeling.

First, stop looking at other people’s highlight reel. Far too often people will post about their joy, not their falls. Don’t compare their joyous moments and wonder when it’s your turn. Second, remember that we were all created for joy. God’s joy. He wants you to be happy in a loving relationship with Him. Lastly remember, moments of pure joy come and go. Hold on to the faith that God will get you there again. After all, you’ve made it this far and the best is always yet to come, when in pure joy we will worship Him face to face for eternity.

God bless you
